Color has always played a pivotal role in my life. As a young child, I vividly remember studying the different color attributes of flower species. I nurtured and explored my passion for color in college, beginning with a Bachelors of Art from Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, an interdisciplinary study in Fine Art and Communication, coupled with work and art study in Western Europe. In 1997, I graduated with honors with an international accreditation, blending the art and science of color in the built environment with the International Association of Color Consultants and Designers (IACC).
As a designer and artist, I’m drawn to the physicality of color as an energetic source of expression in and of itself. It has the ability to impact us totally: emotionally, mentally, psycho-physiologically, spiritually, and when used correctly it can bring out unique identity, positive features, functional and behavioral effects. Can we design happiness into our environments?
Textiles, color trends, fashion, sustainability and the future of design inspires me. I’m passionate about art in interior design as it humanizes and is full of unique possibilities.
In my most recent painting series Color Harmonies, inspired by trips to New York, I let the expressive play of color come forward while crafting paintings designed to feel good. The intuitive, linear color compositions relate to architecture, everything in its place and Feng Shui, the art of placement.
- I am equally nurtured by painting images of water and nature as seen through the Landscape Series.
- In the Meditation Series, I focused on subtle yet consistent physical qualities related in our world.
- Eclectic Inspiration explores diverse subject matter.
- The Color Spectrum is a silk screen set I created the year my first daughter was born. I called her Harmony.
